EVENT DESCRIPTION

The 800km Bali UltraCycling Race is the first and (for now) only UltraCycling event in Indonesia.
Be part of history and sign up for this incredible race that runs all around and across the island of Bali. The race runs in two modes: unsupported, or with car support, and features 3 categories: solo, two-person team, four-person team. Age categories may be added depending on the number of participants. Teams can be mixed males and females. The complete regulations for the event will be able to download soon at this link here. Until then please drop us an email should you have any question. The event runs exclusively on well paved roads, so feel free to use 23 or 25mm tires. Disc brakes are recommended but not mandatory, as the race features some steep downhill inclines up to 25%. Climbs are long and steep with gradients up to 20%, so plan accordingly when deciding gear ratio. Featuring 8 climbs of which only one at just 14 km (rolling), and the other 7 between 21km and 35km, this is very a challenging route, but at least as much spectacular.

Bali offers lots of options in terms of accommodation, but there are sections with only limited or no accommodation at all, so plan wisely. If you prefer, sleeping in the bush is an option as wildlife is generally not aggressive haha. In terms of food and beverage supplies, keep in mind that tap water is not safe to drink, but you can easily find supplies from 5-6am all around the island until late. When riding nearby major towns, 24hr shops may also be available. Expect hot temperatures up to 40°C during the day, and pleasant cooler temperatures as low as 15°C during the night in the hillier parts. Weather should be fairly dry but possibly quite windy, and definitely humid so good hydration is going to be crucial. For many more advices, have a look at the faq section of this website. Lot more details are going to be sent via email to all those registering to the newsletter and those signing up. There will also be a mandatory briefing to be attended the same day as the bike check.

FAQ

The Answers You Need

We hope you enjoyed browsing our site and reading about our event. Below you’ll find a collection of some of the most common questions we’ve been asked about this and other events. If you have additional questions that aren’t on the list, please contact us—we’re here to help.

WHAT IS THE TIME LIMIT?

Since Bali is a beautiful island, you may decide to do this race at a more leisurely pace, therefore we have decided that there is no time limit. However, we estimate a maximum of 5 days to complete the challenge.

IS QUALIFICATION NEEDED?

No qualification needed. If this is your first ultracycling attempt, we suggest you get some good training, especially with long climbs. Previous experience with rides of at least 200km is recommended.

IS THERE A LIST OF MANDATORY EQUIPMENT?

Yes, the full list will be sent to all participants upon registration to the newsletter, or to the event itself. Insurance and medical certificate will be needed too.

CAN I GET HELP DURING THE RACE?

If you opt for the supported category then yes, your car and team will be able to give you all the help you need. May it be carrying your food, tools, spare bike, or whatever else you may want to bring with you. If you instead go for the self supported event, no support will be allowed. It is in the spirit of the race and all self-supported cycling events that you must rely solely on yourself, or on help accessible to all riders, for example from locals, in case of need.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN'T CONTINUE?

If for any reason you can't continue the race, are in trouble or need medical assistance, you should always immediately notify us. An emergency contact number will be given to all riders and will be accessible 24hrs during the race. Basically, we don't offer rescue and you are supposed to get home on your own means. Bali is full of helpful people, don't worry. And we can always help you somehow.

WHEN IS THE LAST DAY I CAN REGISTER? IS THERE A BIKE INSPECTION? RACE BRIEFING?

You can register up to one week before the event. The bike inspection is mandatory two days before the start of the race. On the same day there will be a mandatory short briefing where all your final questions will be answered. We may run an online Zoom or Google Meet event around 15 days before the race, to give you a chance to plan your trip to Bali in the most informed way.

DO YOU PROVIDE ACCOMMODATION?

We have fully comprehensive packages that include hotel, transfers, and participation to the event. Contact us for more details.

CAN A FRIEND OR WIFE FOLLOW ME TO TAKE PICTURES OR VIDEOS?

Basically, it depends on which modality you choose. If going self-supported the answer is no, otherwise yes.

WHAT IF COVID-19 IS STILL AROUND? CAN I GET A REFUND?

We may decide to run the event anyway with only local resident participants in case there will still be travel restrictions in place. But if you can't make it because of that, your registration fee will be refunded or moved to next event.

We hope we’ve provided you with all the information you were looking for.
